OREB DEI Statement

November 27, 2025

Date

Prepared on November 11, 2025 for presentation on November 26, 2025 Board of Directors meeting.

Background

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee was formalized last year to input and guidance to OREB leadership on its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policy, that is in the conception phase; create processes, policies, plans, practices, programs and services that meet the diverse needs of those we serve; and, increase participation and volunteerism among diverse Members in OREB’s Board of Directors, committees, task forces and working groups.

As a first step towards a policy, and as per the Committee’s 2025 Work Plan, the Committee has developed a DEI Statement.

At the August 18, 2025, meeting, the Committee reviewed DEI missions, visions, commitments, statements and policies from other organizations, began developing its own statement to reflect OREB’s values and aspirations. This statement is intended to serve as a foundational declaration, articulating OREB’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals are respected, valued, and empowered to contribute fully and its intention to embed DEI principles into all facets of its governance and operations.

The Committee felt this would help root a future DEI policy and help show progress to members.

Current Status

After a fulsome discussion and some minor edits at their November 10m 2025, meeting, the Committee agreed on the following statement for presentation to the Board of Directors.

At OREB, we make an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. We believe in equal opportunity and in embracing every individual, creating a culture that uplifts both visible and non-visible identities.

We recognize and celebrate each other and are committed to actively challenging systemic barriers and addressing bias in all its forms. Our dedication extends to members, staff, and communities alike. Through OREB’s action and care, we strive to cultivate a safe and supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to be their authentic selves.

Conclusion

The Board of Directors is asked to review the statement for approval and circulation to the members through OREB’s standard communications channels.

Proposed Motion: That the Board of Directors approve the Ottawa Real Estate Board’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Statement as presented; and that the Board direct management to publish the DEI Statement
on OREB’s public and member-facing platforms and integrate it into relevant governance and operational documents.
