OREB Congratulates Mark Sutcliffe on Re-Election as Mayor of Ottawa
October 27, 2026
On behalf of the Ottawa Real Estate Board (OREB) and the REALTORS® we represent across Ottawa and the surrounding region, congratulations to Mark Sutcliffe on his re-election as Mayor of Ottawa.
REALTORS® work every day with families, first-time buyers, renters, and newcomers navigating one of the most important financial decisions of their lives. As Ottawa continues to grow, we believe that making it easier and more affordable to build a wider range of homes is essential to keeping our city accessible for residents at every stage of life.
OREB welcomes Mayor-elect Sutcliffe’s commitment to approve at least 75,000 additional homes by 2030 and to reconvene the Housing Innovation Task Force to identify further opportunities to speed up approvals and cut red tape. We are particularly encouraged by his pledge to freeze municipally imposed costs on new housing, including development charges and permitting fees, and to pursue targeted reductions that can unlock new construction.
These commitments closely align with OREB’s More Homes for Ottawa platform, which calls for lower housing costs, faster approvals, more housing choices in every neighbourhood, increased purpose-built rental supply, and better use of public land for affordable and non-profit housing.
We look forward to working with Mayor-elect Sutcliffe and the new Council to turn these commitments into more homes for Ottawa residents while ensuring that growth is supported by the infrastructure and services communities need. OREB and its REALTOR® members stand ready to work constructively with all elected officials to build a more affordable and welcoming city.
Congratulations again to Mayor-elect Sutcliffe and all members of Ottawa City Council.
