Job Purpose
OREB is looking for a motivated summer student to join our Government and Community Relations team as a Community Development Worker. If you are interested in housing, public policy, community engagement, and how professional associations work with government and community partners, this role offers practical, hands-on experience in a busy and meaningful environment.
The Community Development Worker will directly support the Manager, Government and Community Relations with research, stakeholder outreach, meeting and event preparation, briefing materials, and day-to-day coordination. You’ll gain exposure to how OREB builds relationships with government, community organizations, housing partners, members, and other stakeholders to support informed housing policy, advocacy, and community-focused real estate solutions in the Ottawa region.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Communications Content (40%)
- Track municipal, provincial, and federal policy developments related to housing, real estate, affordability, planning, community issues, and other topics relevant to OREB’s work.
- Assist with preparing briefing notes, backgrounders, meeting materials, correspondence, and stakeholder updates.
- Help gather information from public sources, government websites, reports, consultations, and member input to support advocacy and government relations work.
- Support the Manager, Government and Community Relations in preparing for meetings with elected officials, government staff, community partners, and housing stakeholders.
- Maintain organized records of policy issues, stakeholder priorities, meeting notes, and follow-up items.
2. Community Engagement and Stakeholder Coordination (40%)
- Assist with research, writing, proofreading, and formatting of materials related to government relations, community engagement, and public affairs.
- Help prepare agendas, speaking notes, summaries, event materials, presentation content, and follow-up communications.
- Monitor relevant housing, real estate, municipal, community, and public policy news to help identify trends, opportunities, and emerging issues.
- Support day-to-day administrative tasks, including scheduling support, file organization, document preparation, and project tracking.
- Contribute to a well-organized and responsive Government and Community Relations function by helping keep projects, events, and stakeholder activities on track.
Qualifications
Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements (must be met):
• Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals with refugee/protected status.
• Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Candidates cannot be concurrently employed in more than one Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ)-funded position at any given time. OREB will verify eligibility prior to hiring and throughout the term.

Experience
- Currently pursuing education in public administration, political science, communications, community development, urban planning, public policy, social sciences, stakeholder relations, or another related field, with a minimum of one year of relevant work, volunteer, academic, or community experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills
- A strong interest in housing, community development, government relations, public policy, advocacy, or stakeholder engagement.
- Solid writing, research, editing, and note-taking skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Professional judgment, diplomacy, discretion, and comfort interacting with a range of stakeholders, including members, community partners, government representatives, and the public.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to track details, manage follow-up items, and support several priorities at once.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn how a professional association supports its members and contributes to housing and community conversations in the Ottawa region.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office tools, online research, spreadsheets, contact lists, and basic project tracking tools
Salary Range
- $20/hr; 35 hours per week for a maximum of 280 hours.

Job Purpose
OREB is looking for a motivated summer student to join our Marketing & Communications team. If you enjoy writing, designing, and bringing ideas to life, this role gives you a front-row seat to how a busy marketing and communications shop runs. You’ll gain hands-on experience producing real communications for a professional organization, build a portfolio of work, and learn the rhythms of a modern marketing team. It’s a practical, supportive environment where your ideas count.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Communications Content (40%)
- Create social media posts that inform and engage our members and the public.
- Assist in drafting and editing of press releases, articles, and other written materials.
- Help with proofreading, fact-checking, and polishing communications before they go out the door.
2. Marketing and Design Support (40%)
- Support the design of marketing assets such as graphics, handouts, event materials, and digital content.
- Contribute to planning and prep for a busy fall season including campaigns, events, marketing assets, communications content, and more.
3. Research, Analytics and Engagement (20%)
- Stay abreast of industry news and help track analytics to understand what is resonating.
- Track and analyze performance data from digital channels to help identify trends, audience behaviour, content opportunities, and ways to improve engagement.
Qualifications
Experience
- Currently pursuing degree in communications, journalism or another related field. Experience in a similar role would be considered a strong asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills
- A strong interest in communications, marketing, writing, or design, with enthusiasm and initiative to work with a team.
- Solid writing and editing skills, with attention to detail. Comfort with social media platforms and basic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
- Curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to jump in to help the team when needed.
- Reliability and good time management. Our summer events and fall season prep have plenty of moving parts.

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Manager, Learning and Events, the Educational Resources Assistant supports the coordination and delivery of member education, support and training initiatives. The role assists with responding to member inquiries, supporting learning sessions and events, maintaining training records, preparing educational resources, and providing front-line member support. Through this placement, the student will gain practical experience in professional communication, event and project coordination, administrative support, research and data management within a professional association environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Learning (40%)
- Respond to member inquiries related to courses, sessions, and training requirements in a professional and timely manner
- Track and update new member training progress and completion records
- Assist with the administration of the learning management system (LMS), including session setup, attendance tracking, and reporting
- Prepare materials for sessions, including presentations, handouts, and communications
- Support the coordination and delivery of virtual and in-person learning sessions
- Edit and prepare session recordings for online distribution, including basic video editing
- Research new learning opportunities, industry trends, and emerging topics relevant to member education and other initiatives
- Review content for clarity, accessibility, and accuracy
2. Events (25%)
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of member events
- Support event logistics including room set-up, materials preparation, and attendee coordination
3. Member Services (25%)
- Welcome members and visitors, providing front-line support
- Answer and direct incoming calls and inquiries in a professional manner
- Support members by assisting with programming new lockbox technology and updating related tracking spreadsheets
4. Other Support (10%)
- Assist with scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and organizing supporting documentation
- Take clear, concise, and accurate meeting minutes for meetings

Qualifications
Experience
- Previous administrative, customer service, or office experience
- Current enrollment in or recently completed a post-secondary program in education, events, project management, communications, business administration, or a related field is an asset
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Interest in education, research, and content development
